WASHINGTON (NewsNation Now) — More than 12 million cases of the coronavirus have now been reported in the United States, with the most recent million coming in less than a week, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

Johns Hopkins University’s coronavirus tracker topped 12 million Saturday. It previously reached 11 million cases on Nov 15 and hit 10 million cases on Nov. 9.

It took 306 days for the U.S. to hit the 12 million mark since the first case was diagnosed in Washington state on Jan. 20. There have been more than 256,000 reported deaths in the United States according to Johns Hopkins. Globally there have been more than 57.8 million confirmed coronavirus cases and 1.37 million deaths associated with the virus.

Throughout the country, states have instituted strict guidelines to mitigate the spread of the virus. California is set to enact a nighttime curfew Saturday night, requiring people not on essential errands to stay home from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Dec. 21.
