(NewsNation) — Three Georgia teens are being charged with murder after allegedly shooting a man in an egging incident gone wrong.

Authorities said Sydney Maughon, 18, Jeremy Munson, 18, and McKenzie Davenport, 19, were egging the home of Jonathan Gilbert, whose friends knew him as Tyler Lane, when he came out to confront them. Spalding County Sheriff Darrel Dix said the egging was related to an “ongoing lovers’ quarrel.”

After Gilbert confronted the group, they ran back to the car and allegedly shot him multiple times before driving away and leaving his body in the road. Gilbert was believed to have been unarmed.

Authorities eventually located a witness who provided information on the alleged perpetrators. Officers said they were able to use cellphone data to locate the car with the gun believed to have been used in the shooting inside.

Police said they believe Maughon was the one who fired the shots, but all three teens are being charged with murder.

Maughon and Munson are both facing additional charges, including possession of a firearm during a crime.
