(NewsNation) — The Department of Justice announced a former Army intelligence analyst has been indicted on six counts for sharing confidential information with China.

Korbein Schultz was arrested Thursday and will have a first court appearance Friday. According to prosecutors, Schultz worked with a co-conspirator in China to share national security information. He is charged with conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information, exporting technical data related to defense articles without a license, conspiracy to export defense articles without a license and bribery of a public official.

Schultz, who had a top-secret security clearance, is accused of taking part in a multiyear conspiracy while he was in a role where his job was to act as a custodian for confidential information and train others on how to properly protect such information.

Prosecutors said Schultz traded U.S. national defense information for cash, including information on advanced fighter aircraft and intercontinental ballistic missiles. He was paid on 14 separate occasions and received $42,000 in cash.

Schultz also allegedly discussed recruiting another service member and is said to have used internet-based encrypted methods to share sensitive information.
