ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Jennings, Missouri, woman is in custody after her toddler daughter died this weekend from a drug overdose.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incident occurred just after 6:20 p.m. in the 9100 block of Cozens Avenue.

The 4-year-old victim, identified as Sanaa Riggins, was found unresponsive in her father’s bed with signs of overdose. An ambulance rushed Riggins to St. Louis Children’s Hospital but she was pronounced dead just before 7:30 p.m.

Police claim to have found several capsules of heroin in the home.

Riggins’ father did not show signs of drug use. He had legal custody of the child due to the mother’s reported drug use.

The child was born under the influence of a controlled substance, according to investigators.

Police claim Riggins’ mother, Christina Huntspon, 32, admitted having a severe drug addiction and using heroin in the home earlier that morning. She further admitted that her addiction likely caused the death of her daughter.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Huntspon with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child – death of a child. She was jailed on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
