DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation Tuesday for 15 counties following severe storms and tornadoes in the state.
Counties included in the proclamation are Adair, Adams, Cass, Clay, Hardin, Harrison, Jasper, Kossuth, Marshall, Montgomery, Page, Palo Alto, Pottawattamie, Tama, and Warren counties.
The proclamation allows state resources to be used for recovery efforts and activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program, which provides grants up to $5,000 for home or car repairs, temporary housing, or replacement of clothes or food.
It also activates the Disaster Case Advocacy Program, allowing case advocates to help those affected create a disaster recovery plan.
A storm system that left destruction from Nebraska to Wisconsin on Tuesday left multiple people dead in Iowa, state police confirmed.
At around 4 p.m. Tuesday the small town of Greenfield was directly hit by a tornado that leveled homes and buildings. It’s unclear how many people are dead or hurt. Crews are still clearing debris.
