(NewsNation) — The cleanup effort is underway in Iowa where more than 21 tornadoes left apocalyptic-style devastation and multiple deaths.

One twister obliterated the town of Greenfield, located about 50 miles southwest of Des Moines.

Greenfield City Council member Rob McMorran joined “NewsNation Now,” noting that search and rescue efforts are ongoing while some community members are unaccounted for.

Drone video showed the straight-line path of destruction the tornado carved through the small community.

Residents were left with overwhelming devastation in neighborhoods that are now unrecognizable.

“I have never seen anything like this,” McMorran said. “The streets that you go down every day and think you know like the back of your hand — after this went through you could not recognize or really remember what was where.”

McMorran and his wife were in the basement when the storm hit, and could hear the wind as the storm tore through the city. It seemed to last just a few seconds, he said.

“We’re in the process of figuring out where the debris can go,” he said. “State agencies are here. There’s all kinds of support here.”
