(NewsNation) — Comedian Bassem Youssef is challenging the mainstream media to report facts already being reported by the Isreali media about the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

Youssef is an Egyptian-born heart surgeon turned comic. Some of his more than 25 million followers call him “The Egyptian Jon Stewart.” He joined NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo to discuss the complexities and tensions in the struggle between Israel and Palestine.

“Just translate what’s being said in the Israeli media,” Youssef said on “CUOMO,” claiming that Israel broke international law when reporting on Oct. 7. “Why is the American media being more royal than the king?”

Cuomo pushed back on Youssef’s claim, stating that “comparing the horrible” can “distort the reality.” “To do an accounting of the reporting is counterproductive.”

“We both know that if the Israeli army wanted to kill as many people as they can, there’d be no people left” in Gaza, Cuomo said.

Youssef’s tour is called “Bassem Youssef: The Middle East Tour”
