(FOX40.COM) — A 31-year-old Northern California resident was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after police discovered him in possession of over 100 pounds of illegal fireworks.
The arrest comes a few days after Woodland Police announced the discovery of 120 illegal firework mortars after executing a search warrant at two separate homes in the city.
The 31-year-old suspect, a Woodland resident, was arrested, booked into the Yolo County Jail, and issued a $120,000 fine as a result of the illegal fireworks, police added.
Woodland Police said additional charges could be levied upon the suspect based on additional information that could be revealed during their investigation.
“We urge those still planning on using illegal fireworks to consider the possibility that they may be subject to similar charges/fines and to also consider the health and safety of their neighbors,” the agency said. “It was only two years ago when a local family’s lives were forever changed due to illegal fireworks burning down their home.”
The arrest comes after the city of Woodland canceled its Fourth of July fireworks show this year after someone who helps organize the show experienced a serious injury while working at a fireworks event on Wednesday, serving as a reminder of the dangers of fireworks.
