California police search for suspects in Secret Service robbery

TUSTIN, Calif. (NewsNation) — California police are searching for suspects who robbed a Secret Service agent at gunpoint Saturday in Tustin, California.

The attack happened while President Joe Biden was at a fundraiser at the Peacock Theater in the Los Angeles area.

Police believe multiple suspects were involved and have been able to recover some of the agent’s belongings.

When authorities arrived at the scene, the Secret Service agent said his bag was stolen at gunpoint. And while the agent was armed, he only fired at the suspects when they ran from the scene.

The suspects remain on the run as of Tuesday morning, police said. Officials released an image from security footage of the suspects fleeing the scene in a vehicle. The Tustin Police Department said the vehicle resembles a 2004-2006 silver Infiniti FX35 or similar model.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, told NewsNation it’s unknown whether the attackers were shot and said it’s thankful that the agent wasn’t injured.

The agent involved in the incident has not yet been identified.
