(NewsNation) — It’s been nearly three weeks, and the people behind the fatal shooting of actor Johnny Wactor have not been caught.
The former “General Hospital” star had just finished working a late night shift at a bar May 25 in Los Angeles when he was approached and by three people trying to steal the catalytic converter from his car.
Family and friends of Wactor held a rally this week to honor him, and called on leaders to address violence in Los Angeles, NewsNation local affiliate KTLA reported.
“It’s something that they deserve, and something that Johnny deserved but didn’t get,” his brother Grant Wactor said in an interview Friday on “Morning in America.” “It’s just to continually keep this in the forefront as best we can, as the only thing that we can do from here. Johnny would have done the exact same thing for us.”
Johnny Wactor’s mom, Scarlett Wactor, told NewsNation that they want to keep this “in the forefront” until the people who killed her son are caught and “convicted with the strongest penalty.”
“It makes me feel like his death is in vain if we do not capture them, and then make some changes after they’re captured and punished,” Scarlett Wactor said.
Lance Wactor, Johnny’s brother, said dealing with his sibling’s death has been one of the worst things that’s ever happened to him.
“I was numb for a bit,” he said. “Not really being able to accept what happened. The last few weeks have been just a lot of grieving coming in waves.”
However, an outpouring of support from people has helped with the grieving process, Lance Wactor said.
“Johnny touched so many lives that it’s nice to see the amount of people that care, and that they actually want to make some change from this,” he said.
Scarlett Wactor said her son was a great example for others, a man who lived with purpose and intent, giving love to everyone he knew.
“Every day, he worked on that, and we should all live that way,” she said.
