(NewsNation) — Sean “Diddy” Combs issued an apology amid the release of a disturbing hotel surveillance video showing him assaulting his ex-partner Cassie, but some are now calling attention to the safety of his children.
In the video posted Sunday, Combs admitted that he beat his ex-girlfriend Cassie, a singer, in a hotel hallway in 2016 after CNN released video of the attack May 17.
Hotel surveillance video from 2016 obtained by the outlet showed Combs violently attacking, kicking and shoving Ventura at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.
In the video, Combs is seen running in a towel after Ventura, who is seen standing in front of an elevator bank. He aggressively grabs and drags her down and then kicks her before picking up her luggage. He is then seen dragging her on the floor back to a hotel room as she braces her head.
“I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now,” the music mogul said.
“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that,” Combs said. “I went and I sought out professional help. I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry.”
In light of the video, there needs to be an investigation into the safety of the young children in his custody, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton said on “NewsNation Prime” Sunday.
“I’m a father of three, and I’m very concerned for his minor children,” he said.
Combs has three daughters who are under his care, Hilton said. This includes twins D’Lila and Jessie, 17, and one-year-old Love.
“I don’t think it’s outlandish to say that I hope child protective services is investigating right now and hopefully, especially the almost two-year-old, could be taken care of by somebody other than Diddy,” Hilton said.
Combs also has five other adult children.
Hilton called the hotel surveillance video the “final nail in the coffin” for Diddy, who has already lost brand partnerships amid the slew of sexual misconduct lawsuits and a potential federal investigation.
