(NewsNation) — The trial of Georgia mother Lindsay Shiver who allegedly engaged in a murder-for-hire plot with her lover to kill her estranged husband in the Bahamas has been delayed to July.
Shiver’s trial was originally slated for March but was pushed back by a magistrate in the Bahamas, according to NewsNation affiliate WDHN. She will still be required to appear in court for at least two pre-trial hearings in May and June, according to Court TV.
The former beauty queen was married to ex-NFL player Robert Shivver and was arrested in August 2023 after hatching a plan to kill her husband while on vacation.
Bahamian police uncovered the plan between Shiver, her lover Terrance Bethel, and his friend, Faron Newbold during the course of a break-in investigation on the island, Bahamas Court News reported.
Police say they found WhatsApp messages on a phone belonging to one of the break-in suspects detailing a plan to kill Robert Shiver, which included a message from Shiver which said, “Kill him.”
The former couple from Thomasville, Georgia, had reportedly been in the middle of a bitter divorce. They share three children.
NewsNation obtained body camera footage from July 16 which showed police responding to a tense confrontation between Shiver and her husband.
The mother of three was released on $100,000 bail and two men were released on a $20,000 bail over the summer, the Times-Enterprise reported. All three were required to wear an ankle monitor, check in at the local police department three times a week and keep a daily curfew as conditions for release.
A court ruling allowed Shiver to return to her parent’s home in Alabama in December while she awaits trial.
If convicted, Shiver, Bethel, and Newbold Jr. could face 30 and 60 years behind bars.
