(NewsNation) —  Comic actor Jon Lovitz got serious on NewsNation’s “Dan Abrams Live” on Thursday night regarding the protests at colleges across the U.S.

“Hamas is clearly a terrorist organization,” he said, while also recalling being subjected to the same sort of harassment when he was going to college as Jewish students are now reporting on college campuses.

“I was a drama major. Now you’re saying I’m responsible for everything that’s going on in Israel, the Middle East? It’s absurd.”

Lovitz, who attended the University of California–Irvine, said he can’t understand people who claim to be educators failing to educate — or to take a stand. An example, he said, was a recent news report on the Columbia campus.

“They showed a guy interviewing all these professors from Columbia going in support the protesters, and asking them, ‘You think it’s wrong about, you know, asking for genocide of the Jews?’ … or, ‘Do you denounce Hamas?’, and none of them would say it.”

Beyond the demonstrations, Lovitz says there’s no question that Israel has had to forcefully respond to being attacked.

“Israel’s in the position of kill or be killed because Hamas has said ‘we’re going to keep doing October 7 over and over and over.’”
