(NewsNation) — Following a shooting at a rally for former President Donald Trump, MSNBC pulled Monday’s airing of “Morning Joe” in favor of continued news coverage.
The Secret Service is investigating the shooting, which killed one attendee and seriously injured two others, as an assassination attempt on Trump. The shooting came just days before Trump is set to accept the Republican nomination for president at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
According to media reports, the decision to pull the show, hosted by Joe Scarborough and his wife Mika Brzezinski, came out of fear that one of the show’s guests might say something inappropriate about Saturday’s shooting.
Scarborough and Brzezinski are critics of Trump, and Trump supporters have attacked MSNBC for coverage in the past. In the wake of the shooting, some conservatives have blamed the media for how Trump has been covered. Others have blamed Democrats and President Joe Biden for referring to Trump as a threat to democracy.
Following the shooting, Biden’s campaign paused advertising and the president addressed the nation, condemning political violence and calling on people to make their voices heard at the ballot box.
“Morning Joe” is set to air Tuesday as scheduled.
