(NewsNation) — The host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” said he was “very disappointed” in the network’s decision to cancel Monday’s show following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

The network made the decision to pull the show Monday, with reports suggesting executives were concerned one of the show’s guests could make an inappropriate remark about the Saturday shooting at a Trump campaign rally. Hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski have been outspoken critics of Trump.

Following the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, many Trump supporters have cast blame on Democrats and the media, suggesting that remarks critical of the former president were to blame for the actions of the gunman.

On air, Scarborough expressed surprise and frustration over the decision to preempt Monday’s show. He said he and Brzezinski had been told there would be one news feed across NBC channels Monday, with a focus on President Joe Biden’s Monday night interview with Lester Holt.

However, the network did return to regularly scheduled coverage, with some breaks for special coverage of the Republican National Convention, moving away from previous coverage heavily focused on the investigation into the assassination attempt.

“Morning Joe” returned as scheduled Tuesday morning.
