(NewsNation) — In a bid to shatter a Guinness World Record and support children facing medically related hair loss, the stage is set for “The Great Cut 2024,” where hundreds of hair professionals will convene in San Diego to perform thousands of haircuts.

Chris Healy and Lindsay Barto, co-founders of The Longhairs, previously set a world record in 2019 for the most hair donated to charity, aims to surpass their own achievement this year.

“The current record is 339 pounds of hair…so that is the mark to beat,” Healy said during a Saturday interview on “NewsNation Prime.”

Healy emphasized that while a significant portion of hair donations came from in-person contributions in San Diego, the vast majority arrived via mail from donors worldwide. “So we are still hoping for a big influx of mail-in hair donations and ways for people to participate from near and afar,” he added.

“When kids lose their hair, they lose their confidence,” Barto explained. “Everybody has a story in these locks. And the 1000s of other people have a story with their own hair. And when we donate it, this story lives on and it gets to bring confidence to these kids.”

With the deadline for hair donations set for March 15, Healy emphasized various ways individuals can contribute, even if they are unable to donate hair directly.

The Great Cut 2024 not only aims to break records but also to uplift children battling hair loss, exemplifying the power of collective action in making a meaningful difference.
