(NewsNation) — Despite facing the challenge of a birth defect that rendered only her left arm functional, Baileigh Sinaman-Daniel‘s relentless dedication has led her to Warren Wilson College‘s basketball team in North Carolina.

Sinaman-Daniel’s journey began with the realization of her difference during elementary school, where she faced bullying. However, with unwavering support from her family and mentors, she learned to embrace her uniqueness and pursue her dreams without inhibition.

The pivotal moment in Sinaman-Daniel’s journey came during her senior year of high school when she was cut from the varsity basketball team. Crushed by this setback, she refused to let it define her. Instead, she spent two days reflecting before devising a plan to send out videos of her gameplay to numerous coaches across the East Coast.

“Having that happen, crushed me deep down because basketball was a place where I kind of felt normal,” Sinaman-Daniel said on “NewsNation Prime.”

Her perseverance paid off when coach Robin Martin-Davis of Warren Wilson College extended an offer for her to join the team.

“She said she would love to have me and after that it has been history and I’ve been here ever since,” Sinaman-Daniel said.

Meeting Martin-Davis confirmed Sinaman-Daniel’s belief in the coach’s genuine care and interest in her as both a player and a person. Following a successful prospect day, Sinaman-Daniel officially became a part of the Warren Wilson College basketball team.

Sinaman-Daniel’s message of “bet on yourself” resonates deeply with her journey of resilience and determination.

“Don’t let anybody tell you anything.”
