OMAHA, Neb. (WJW) — A dog found wrapped up in duct tape was rescued from a trash bin earlier this week, the Nebraska Humane Society reported.
Employees at an Omaha accounting firm had heard an animal rustling around in the dumpster Sunday evening, but assumed it was a raccoon. The next day, they discovered a dog inside in terrible condition: his fur was matted with food and dirt and he had tape around the head, legs and tail, NHS said.
The dog was taken to the humane society’s headquarters, where he was sedated and cleaned up.
Besides some skin irritation, NHS said the dog was in “good spirits” after waking up.
The dog’s owner had reported the animal missing the previous week and, through the help of a microchip, the humane society was able to track her down.
“He’s the sweetest dog! I don’t know why anyone would do this,” his owner Erin told the animal rescue group.
Those who have any information regarding the incident are urged to reach out to Omaha Animal Control. The humane society is offering a $1,000 reward in the case.
