(NewsNation) — President Joe Biden is losing support among key demographics as polls show his favorability is down among Black voters.
“The problem the Biden team is actually having is really challenging the expectations that many of us had in the Black community, of what a presidency will look like, and how that benefits black people,” said political commentator Melik Abdul.
Biden is campaigning in South Carolina ahead of the first official Democratic primary, but some Black voters tell NewsNation they are not enthusiastic about their options and are considering not voting at all.
“I did vote for Biden last election and if he is running again, I don’t think that’s a selection I would make,” said South Carolina voter Herman McDaniel. “I just wish there was another choice.”
Without support from Black Americans, Biden’s reelection bid could be in jeopardy.
“Let’s say that Donald Trump actually does get between maybe 12% to 14% of the black vote, that’s being a little generous for sure, but if that is possible, or if Black voters actually stay at home, that hurts Joe Biden,” political commentator Melik Abdul told NewsNation.
“He needs the Black vote in a lot of these battleground states like Pennsylvania, Georgia and other states,” Abdul added.
