DOJ search: No classified docs found at Biden beach house

(NewsNation) — The Department of Justice searched President Joe Biden’s Delaware beach house as part of an ongoing investigation into the handling of classified documents. No classified material was found at the residence, according to the president’s personal attorney.

White House Oversight and Investigations spokesman Ian Sams said Biden is cooperating fully with the investigation and cooperating with investigators in good faith.

“He believes in giving them the space to conduct a thorough review and to conduct that review efficiently. That’s why he’s moving quickly to give them access to his home in Wilmington, to give them access to his home in Rehoboth, so they can do a full search, so they’re able to get access to the information so they can move ahead in their review,” Sams said.

Sams declined to speak on the nature or content of any documents found in prior searches,

Bob Bauer, personal attorney for the president, released a statement after the search: “The DOJ’s planned search of the President’s Rehoboth residences, conducted in coordination and cooperation with the President’s attorneys, has concluded. The search was conducted from 8:30 AM to noon.

No documents with classified markings were found.

Consistent with the process in Wilmington, the DOJ took for further review some materials and handwritten notes that appear to relate to Biden’s time as vice president.

In an earlier statement, Bauer said the search was voluntary and that Biden agreed in advance.

“Today, with the President’s full support and cooperation, the DOJ is conducting a planned search of his home in Rehoboth, Delaware. Under DOJs standard procedures, in the interests of operational security and integrity, it sought to do this work without advance public notice, and we agreed to cooperate. The search today is a further step in a thorough and timely DOJ process we will continue to fully support and facilitate. We will have further information at the conclusion of today`s search,” the initial statement read.

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special prosecutor to handle the investigation after classified documents were discovered at a former office and Biden’s Delaware home.

Biden is not alone in his handling of classified documents. Former President Donald Trump is also subject to a special counsel investigation over classified material, and it was recently revealed that former Vice President Mike Pence also had materials that should have been returned to the National Archives.

The DOJ has asked all former presidents and vice presidents to check their homes and offices for classified material that should be returned.
