(NewsNation) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced the arrest of more than 150 unlawful immigrants with convictions or pending charges for serious offenses.

ICE said the results of a targeted operation included the capture of 171 individuals who were unlawfully present in the U.S. Of those, ICE said 103 had convictions or pending charges of assault against children, including sexual assault.

Authorities said at least 10 of those arrested had convictions or pending charges for homicide.

The operation included 25 major cities across the U.S. and relied on technology to help locate individuals who had convictions or pending charges for serious offenses.

Those who were detained presented a risk to public safety, authorities said in a press conference on Thursday.

Authorities did not give details, noting that many of those were still in immigration proceedings. They also noted that the timeframe to remove individuals will vary based on immigration court proceedings and administrative procedures that would be needed to deport people once a final order of removal was issued.
