(KRON) – Macy’s plans to lay off 2,350 employees, according to the Wall Street Journal. The department store plans to close five stores, per the report, including a Bay Area store.

“At Macy’s, we continue to reposition our store fleet to better meet the needs of our customers in each of our markets. After careful consideration, we have decided to close our Macy’s Bayfair Center store,” a Macy’s spokesperson told KRON4. “The decision to close a store is always a difficult one, but Macy’s is grateful to have served our customers and the community. We remain committed to delivering a seamless shopping experience to our customers across channels, including neighboring stores at Southland Mall, Stoneridge Shopping Center, Newpark Mall, Broadway Plaza, Hillsdale Mall; and a premier digital shopping experience.”

According to Macy’s, the employees of the San Leandro store were notified of the store’s closing, and severance benefits will be available for eligible colleagues. There are approximately 60 employees at the San Leandro location.
