CHICAGO (WTVO) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers seized 1K pounds of substances used in making meth and cocaine last week in Chicago, authorities told WLS.

Officials seized a shipping container that held 26 boxes of the ingredients that were coming from China to suburban Wood Dale on Thursday, according to police.

The agency said that it confirmed that the ingredients were BMK methyl Glycidate, which is created after cooking a type of meth, and Benzocaine, which is used to cut cocaine.

The Department of Homeland Security is also investigating the incident.

“Our ability to collect intelligence and the experience and knowledge of our officers were key in stopping these shipments,” said LaFonda Sutton-Burke, the agency’s Chicago Field Office director of field operations.
