STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) – Several people who purchased Nintendo Switch 2 consoles from a Staten Island GameStop on Thursday reportedly received them with punctured screens, according to customers and social media posts.

The incident was first reported on Reddit by a user who said they went to the midnight release of the Nintendo Switch 2, which was released on June 5, at the Forest Avenue GameStop store. A photo showed a receipt stapled to the front of the Nintendo Switch 2 box, and after unboxing, two punctures could be seen on the console’s screen.

GameStop told NewsNation affiliate PIX11 News in a statement, “We are currently investigating and will make the customers whole if there was damage.”

The fervor for the Switch 2 began in April, when Nintendo announced the console as a follow-up to the Switch. Pre-orders for the new console were paused in the U.S. for several weeks after the announcement as the gaming company assessed President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs.

Over 150 million Nintendo Switch consoles have been sold as of June 2025, according to Nintendo’s website. Nintendo expects to sell 15 million Switch 2 consoles through March 2026.
